JA Ghana proudly celebrates a defining moment as XeroLabs from Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon, returns home with two prestigious awards from the 2025 JA Africa Company of the Year (COY) Competition in Abuja, Nigeria. Representing Ghana among eight countries, the student team showcased bold innovation rooted in climate resilience, sustainability, and technology driven.
XeroLabs earned recognition for its circular-economy solution that converts vehicle soot into ink products, addressing urban air pollution while supporting environmental education in schools and communities. Their impressive performance secured two major honours:
• The Boeing Sustainable Innovation Award: recognising student-led ventures that
demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental sustainability through innovative solutions.
• The FedEx Global Possibilities Award: honouring teams that best embody global access,
innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility.
“This victory is more than two trophies,” said the Executive Director of JA Ghana. “It is evidence of the brilliance, courage, and limitless potential of Ghanaian youth. It shows what happens when young minds are given the platform, mentorship, and belief they deserve.”
The COY Competition, Africa’s premier challenge for high school students who have completed the JA Company Program, welcomed young innovators aged 14 to 17 to compete under the theme ACT: Action for Climate Transformation. Over three days, participants participated in pitch sessions, leadership activities, seminars, and panel evaluations to strengthen business acumen and global readiness. JA Africa also ensured that inclusion remained central by embedding accessibility features across major sessions.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Davis Bempong Osei of XeroLabs shared: “Our aim was to design a solution that reduces pollution while creating value for schools and communities. Standing on the continental stage and being recognised for this work inspires us to dream bigger and make an even stronger impact.”
As the competition concludes, JA Ghana commends XeroLabs for their creativity, dedication, and leadership. Their continental success reinforces Ghana’s growing influence in young entrepreneurship and sustainability-focused innovation.
